John Joseph "Joe" Orth was a machinist by trade. He worked in the Panama Canal Zone. He married a widow, Jennie Belinger (née Gamble), in 1902. Joe was stepfather to her sons, Harry Belinger and Robert "Rollo" Belinger, until her death in 1909. In 1920, Joe was married to Zonie Martin and had three children, only one of which lived past infancy--a daughter, Naomi Jane Orth, born Jan. 20, 1922.
