Tom White
Funeral services for Tom White, 93, of Clifton, were held Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian, the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Interment followed in the Mitchell Cemetery at Iredell. White died Monday, July 16, 2001, in the Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility in Clifton following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 13, 1908, in Jonesboro, a son of the late John Bullock and Ellen Clara Hester White. He moved to the Iredell area as a small child, where he was raised and educated. He farmed in that area until the start of World War II, then worked as a builder at several military bases. He later worked for the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant in McGregor before going to work with General Tire in Waco in 1945. He retired from General Tire in 1970. After his retirement, he remained active, owning his own bicycle shop as well as various other endeavors. On Sept. 18, 1965, he married Allene Allen in Cleburne. White had been a resident of Clifton since 1994. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Allene White of Clifton; sons Russell Allen and wife Frances White of Washington, Texas, and Garvis and wife Sue White of Vidor; stepson Don and wife Gladys White of Clifton; stepdaughter Darlene and husband James carter of Arlington; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers were David Jenson, Kevin White, James Carter, Charlie White, Matt Simpson, and Jason Smith. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian was in charge of
arrangements.
