Mayvis attended grade school up to the 8th grade in Van Hook Schools. She eventually moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she lived with her sister and her husband. She met Charles E. Allen and later married him on Dec. 29, 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her husband was in the military and they lived the next several years both on the east coast and the west coast. After retiring from the military, they moved to the McAlester area and lived on the farm and were residence of the area for about 40 years. She passed away at McAlester Regional Health Center at the age of 77. Survivors include three brothers, Adrian Priester and wife, Marlene, Red Priester and John Priester and wife, Fannie; one sister, Laura Davis, of McAlester. Also, a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Allen, of McAlester; two grandchildren, Jacob Allen and wife, Kara, of Erick, and Cherrie Allen, of McAlester; one great-grandchild, Claire Allen, of Erick, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles E. Allen, on Dec. 6, 2003 ; a son Charles Allen; four brothers, Alvin, James, Fred, Donald and two sisters, Verna and Alice. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. J.T. Carnell officiating. Burial will be at Arpelar Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Strode, Chuckie Strode, Charlie Strode, Tracy Parrot, Gerald Wilson and Paul Heathcock.
