He married Elizabeth Ann Norris and they had thirteen children : Janie, Annie, Ophelia, Olivia, Charlie, Mamie, William, Van, George, Edwina, James, Myrta and Robert.
The obituary states he was a Confederate veteran, a member of the Hattiesburg camp, and was the first veteran to be buried in full Confederate uniform.
