He was a local agent for the Pacific Monthly magazine, was an officer for the Clavelle Social Club was publisher of The What Not in San Bernardino- a literary weekly, the San Luis Rey Star newspaper, was a justice of the peace at San Luis Rey, became a judge and was appointed Notary
Public for San Diego County.He married Susan E. Murray, daughter of Senator and Mrs. J.P. Murray. He restored the Whaley House in 1909-1910 and turned the house into a tourist attraction. His funeral was held in the Whaley House.
