George served in the Army Reserves for 33 years.

His hobbies included John Deere tractors, the outdoors, including hunting and fishing; puzzles, and playing cribbage and a card game called "solo." He also enjoyed traveling, and visited Australia, Hawaii, and Mexico; also spending some time "wintering" in Texas. Wherever George went, he always managed to know someone.
