Darlene was a teacher's aide for special education students 25 years at Sunman Elementary before retiring in 2010.
A people person, Darlene enjoyed being with friends and family and doted on her grandson Jase. Several of her interests took her outdoors. She loved to bike. She and Norb were regularly seen biking together on their recumbent bicycles. In addition to cycling, she also liked hiking and taking walks. Though not interested in mowing, she'd wait until Norb was finished and hop on their John Deere rider and cruise around the yard while looking busy. Her family indicated mom was a fantastic baker and cook. Her Black Magic cake was a special treat eagerly anticipated at birthdays and her roast beef, mashed potatoes and homemade yeast rolls were always a favorite meal for the family. Quiet time was spent doing needle point, reading or watching Oprah.
Darlene is survived by her husband Norb; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Matthew Sutton of The Woodlands, Texas; son Brian Riehle of Chicago, Illinois; mother Clara Eggen of Charlestown, Indiana; sisters Diana Reed of Charlestown, Indiana, Donna Overstreet of Louisville, Kentucky, Della Chapman of Cincinnati, Debra Wiggers of Charlestown, Indiana, Denise Bostic of Charleston, West Virginia; brothers David Reed of St. Albans, West Virginia, Daniel Reed of Portland, Oregon, Dennis Reed of Napoleon, Indiana, Donald Reed of Sellersburg, Indiana, Dale Reed of Big Bear Creek, West Virginia, Darrell Reed of Louisville, Kentucky, Doug Reed of Phoenix, Arizona and two grandchildren.
