Dies After Nine Month Illness

One-Time Pastor of Central Presbyterian Church to Be Buried Here Wednesday

The Rev. Dr. George Alexander McAlister, 273 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, a Presbyterian minister for 48 years, died at 12:01 o'clock on Sunday morning at the Chambersburg Hospital after an illness of nine months.

At the time of his death he was serving as pastor of the Second Welsh Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Dr. McAlister was born in Belfast, North Ireland, a son of the late George and Elizabeth Savage McAlister. He received his early education in the national schools of North Ireland and Carroll College, Waukesha, and theological training at Assembly's College, Belfast, and the Chicago Theological Seminary.

On July 3, 1906, the minister was ordained by the Milwaukee Presbytery in the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge, Wis., where he served as pastor for two and one-half years. He next served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Chester, N. Y., and in 1914 accepted the pastorate of the Central- Presbyterian Church of town. After serving here for 16 years, Dr. McAlister received a call to the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Newark, N. J., and served as pastor there for 12 years. He next became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Salem, N.J., where he remained until he was called to the church at Wilkes-Barre nine years later.

His theology was of the conservative nature and he preached only fundamental teachings.

The Presbyterian minister was the third member of his mother's family to enter the ministry.

He held membership in the Columbus Lodge, I.O.O.F., of town.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, the former Miss Isabel Miley, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Miley of Chambersburg, are a sister, Mrs. Sara McMath, and a nephew, Dr. R. A. McMath, both of Belfast, Ireland.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Melvin W. Riddle officiating. Burial will be made in the Lincoln Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sellers funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 o'clock
