Born Elmer Ray Cundick (but known as Ray) to Samuel and Charlotte Ida Crane Cundick, he was one of nine children. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1936, and married Emma Ruth Nielsen on April 17, 1939 in Salt Lake City, UT. Ray began working at JC Penney in 1933 and managed stores in Nephi and Vernal, Utah. In 1963 the family moved to Salt Lake City where Ray worked as a purchasing agent for the State of Utah. He was active in his faith serving in three bishoprics and the High Council. He was also active in the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club, where he also served as President. As a youth he participated in community road shows, and melodramas, often playing the villain (but that was acting as he was a very gentle man). He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, and golfing - even on this 90th birthday. He was a kind, gentle, loving man, and his home was always a second home to his grandchildren and "the place of gathering" for family and friends. He was survived by his wife, a son, and three daughters, 29 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Ray was a man of integrity and dedication, and an all around wonderful individual.
