Alternate info is that he was born in Grantham, NH (bio in Dartmouth College, Class of 1856: Pamphlet box).

Graduated Dartmouth in 1856.

Served as Captain in 11th RI Volunteers, 1862-1863. He was a Republican.

He was a lawyer in Neosho and Springfield for many years, but retired to his McDonald County farm around 1900 for his health.
