Bertine - Samuel E., at the home of his son, Harry D. Bertine, No. 212 W. Lincoln Avenue, with whom he had made his home. Mr. Bertine was in his 80th year and had lived in Mount Vernon for nearly, if not quite, a half century. He was born in the old town of Eastchester and was a descendent of a family which has resided in Westchester County for upwards of two centuries. He was engaged in business in Brooklyn and New York for a considerable number of years and was well and favorably known. He was a retiring man and he never sought prominence of any character. He was one of the organizers of Protection Engine Company, No. 2, and his name was for a number of years, and may be now, on the rolls of the company. He was also a member of the Board of Education of School No. 5, at West Mount Vernon, when that was a separate school district. Mrs. Bertine died a number of years ago, but he is survived by four sons, Frederick, who is one of the auditors of the New Haven Road and resides at New Haven, Arthur W., S. Wilbur and Harry D. Bertine, the last three living in Mount Vernon. The funeral will take place from the residence of Harry D. Bertine, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Daily Argus [Mount Vernon, NY], 28 March 1904

Also father of Charles A, Louis E, and Seaman W. Bertine, who predeceased him
