James Keith Bower, was a young man like most young men, was a good student, had many friends and fun to be around. He was a Baptist and attended Riverside Baptist Church. In the Fort Myers Newspaper the story of that horrible day was told. James Keith Bower, 16 year old High School Student, was killed instantly last night when his car collided with an Alantic Coast Line switch engine at the South Steet crossing near the State Farmers Market. A passenger in the car, Jane Wells, 14 survives with a compound fracture of the right leg and other injuries. She was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. James Bower died as a result of head injuries. The Switch Engine hit the car just behind the right wheel of the car, and carried it 70 feet along the track where the engine and car came to a halt. Authorities said there were no skid marks, and that Bower apparently did not see the engine until the moment of impact. There were no red lights at the crossing, just a stop sign. James Keith Bower , was known to family and friends as Jimmy. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 1963, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church, with the Rev. E.S. Anderson, presiding. He will be laid to rest in the Memorial Gardens in Fort Myers, Florida.
