WEBER CITY, Va. Paul Balthis "Pig" McConnell, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 10,
2011, at Holston Valley Hospital. Born April 20, 1934, in Snowflake, Va., Mr. McConnell was retired from the Scott
County Sheriffs Department, having been employed 20 years, 10 of which he was Sergeant. He was also a retired
civil servant of 18 years, having served at Mare Island Navel Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. He was a member of
Community Fellowship Baptist Church in Gate City, Va. He will always be remembered for the loving care he took of
his family, he was "the Dad he didn't have to be". He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoke Smith McConneil
and Teddy Pearl Balthis McConnell; son, Jeff McConnell; and brother, Roland Leon 'Tommy" McConnell. He is survived by his
wife, Freida Carroll Williams McConnell, of the home; the children he loved and returned his love and respect, Joy Hensley and
husband, Roger, Gate City, Stephen Mark Dean, Centreville, Va., Tracey Paul McConnell, Ft. Worth, Texas, Walter Moden,
Kalamath Falls, Ore., Paul B. McConnell Jr., Kalamath Falls, Cindy Iberra and husband, Moises, California, and Douglas
McConnell and wife, Maria, Tucson, Ariz.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three special grandchildren, Brand! Elam
and husband, Mike, Sean Hensley and fiance, Alysha Gamble, and Jonas Moenckert; one special great-granddaughter, Avery
Claire Elam; sister, Fern Groen, Hollister, Calif.; brothers, William Edward "Darnell" McConnell and wife, Billie, Weber City, Frank
Barrel "Poss" McConnell and wife, Pia, Gate City, Robert Hoke McConnell and wife, Kristen, Yuma, Va., and Eric McConnell,
Florida; half brothers and sisters, Joy and Roger Tweed, Donna and Tom Brown, Dale Crane and wife, and Ricky Tipton and wife;
several nieces and nephews; and his best feline friend, Jackson. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 12, 2011, from 6 to
8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City. Funeral services will be held in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, May
12, 2011, at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Kendrick officiating. Military graveside services conducted by VFW Post No. 4933, will be held
Friday, May 13, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home
by 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie McConnell, Barry McConnell, Lee McConnell, Mark
Dean, Seth McConnell, Mike Elam, Roger Hensley and Sean Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Wesley Eastridge and Dr.
ibriham Nakhoui. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the the building fund of Community Fellowship Baptist
Church, P.O. Box 1407, Gate City VA; or the American Cancer Society 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City TN 37601. The family
wishes to extend a special thanks to the following people who gave such special care to Mr. McConnell, Dr. Wesley Eastridge and
staff, Dr. Al Pesh Patel, Church Hill EMS, doctors and staff of Holston Valley Hospital emergency room, hospital staff of W3, and a
