Richard E. Heikes, 80,of York, entered into rest unexpectedly at 6:45 p.m. Thursday October 23, 2008, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Janet L. (Shoff) Heikes, his wife of 46 years, whom he married on December 31, 1961.

Richard was born in York, August 13, 1928, the son of the late Floyd I and Sarah E. (Kibler) Heikes. He was a Lead Foreman at Borger Steel in York retiring in 1990 after 23 Years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Richard E. Heikes, II of Dover, Del., Steven Heikes of Florida, Dale K. Heikes of Thomasville, Reno B. Heikes of Red Lion, and Tracey T. Heikes of Dover; one daughter, Joyce E. Howell of Mount Olive, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd Heikes and Roy Heikes, both of York and Steward Heikes of Florida; two sisters, Helen Ziegler of Martinsville, and Henrietta Kahler of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Randall Mackenzie, who entered into rest October 2007; and a great grandson, TJ Jones Johnson, who entered into rest in 2002.

Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
