Edouard Cellier was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Canton of Neuchâtel as the son of Daniel Auguste Cellier and Elisabeth Frey. Edouard learned to be a carpenter from his father. He married Louise Elisa Althaus, and together they raised three children of their own and a godson whose parents, a sister of Louise Elisa and her husband, were unable to care for their child due to a car accident in 1920 that left them disabled. Edouard Cellier died in Colombier, in the Canton of Neuchâtel. His remains are buried at the La Chaux-de-Fonds cemetery. He was survived by his wife, by his three children Suzanne Elisa Pfenniger, Jean Edouard Cellier, and Charles Emile Cellier, and by his godson René Rufenacht.
