Charles Alfred "Shep" Schoeppey, 84, went to be with the Lord and joined his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Dean Schoeppey, on the evening of September 20, 2012. He was surrounded by his family when he passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on November 15, 1927, to Frank Benjamin and Lillie (Long) Schoeppey in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Shep grew up with five brothers and two sisters who lovingly called him "Dink." He served in the United States Air Force and then joined the United States Air Force Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base. He taught aircraft systems and maintenance and officer candidate training. He received numerous awards and retired as a Master Instructor after 32 years of service. He had a second career in the oilfield supply business with D.B. Sales until May, 2011.
Shep was a faithful and long-time member of Bible Baptist Church, teaching his Sunday School class there for 57 years. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a committed and gifted teacher and a faithful and loving husband, father and "Papa." He enjoyed spending time in his workshop and could fix most anything.
Shep is survived by his daughter, Brenda Schoeppey Lake of Iowa Park, Texas; son, Stan Schoeppey and wife Karen of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Dena Graham Smith and husband Marcus of Panama City, Florida, Brian Graham of Wichita Falls, Emily Schoeppey of Whitney, Texas, Katie Schoeppey Meier and husband Travis of Chicago, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Chase and Micah of Panama City, Florida.
A celebration of Shep's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery Park under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 28, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
In lieu of flowers, Shep would be honored by your gift to Bible Baptist Church, 908 Austin Street, Wichita Falls, Texas, 76301; or Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas, 76310.
