Walter Carter Rites Friday at Steffenville
Funeral services for Walter Carter, 72, were held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist church, near Steffenville, on Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, at 2:30, with the Rev. Truman Jingst officiating. Mrs. Virginia Anderson sang, accompanied by John Gross at the piano. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, was born July 14, 1890 near Steffenville, Mo., and died on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 1962, at a hospital in Bozeman, Mont. Mr. Carter had been living at Shelbyville for the past several years but had been visiting relatives and friends for a few weeks in Montana, California and Washington, when he suffered a heart attack and died at Bozeman. He was married to Gertie Jones May 2, 1920. She preceded him in death three years ago. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Josie Christman and Mrs. Sophia Woolfe, both of Clarence, Mo.; three half-brothers, Silas Carter of Bethel, Orval of Ewing and Casper of Quincy; one half-sister, Mrs. Lucille Higgins of Quincy, Ill. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two half-brothers, Zack and Claud Carter.
