Funeral services for Leon P. Bristley, 71, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Allison Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Fry, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery. Mr. Bristley died at the family residence Tuesday morning about 7 o'clock, following a long illness.

A native of Alvarado, Texas, he was a grandson of Col. James Wrigley, one of the first settlers of Liberty. He worked for Gulf Oil Company in Beaumont and the Texas Company in Port Arthur prior to coming to Liberty in 1901. After coming to Liberty he worked for the Winfrey Oil Company when oil was first discovered in the South Liberty field. He was later associated with the E.B. Pickett law firm. He was the owner of the Home Insurance Agency and had been in the insurance business here for 35 years. He was a member of the original volunteer firemen of Liberty and was the first Fire Marshall in Liberty.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pet Bristley; one son, Leon Bristley, Jr., of Houston; one brother, J.N. Bristley, Baytown; three grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Pallbearers were Dr. T.O. Davis, Judge P.C. Matthews, C.H. LaCour, Brad Pickett, Pascal LaCour, W.C. Lee, Milton Kay and Herman Locke. Liberty Vindicator, March 13, 1958
