Charles R. Hartwell, 58, of Edinburgh died at 11:02 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Johnson County Memorial Hospital.

He worked in maintenance at Atterbury Job Corps. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a former member of the Indiana National Guard.

Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Born May 3, 1941, in Columbus, he was the son of Roscoe and Della Hayes Hartwell. He married Luessie Mullis Sept. 28, 1963. She died Oct. 15, 1981.

Survivors include sons, Robert W. and Mark Hartwell, both of Taylorsville; a daughter, Beth Villa of Madison; stepdaughters, Cheryl Hatton and Renita Rice, both of Columbus; brothers, Richard Hartwell of Columbus and William and Leonard Hartwell, both of Edinburgh; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a companion, Sandra Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Ray Hartwell.
