June Whitmore Black was born on December 3, 1903 in Deep Creek (Ibapah), Tooele County, Utah, a son of George Ayers Black and Artemisia Cox Black.

He married Thelma Undine Reid April 27, 1927 in the L.D.S. temple in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

He served as Scout Master and Bishop of the L.D.S. Delta Second Ward in the 1940s. In the late 1940s and early 1950s he was President of the L. D.S. Deseret Stake. In his later years he and his wife served as the President and Matron of the L.D.S. Temple in Manti, Sanpete County, Utah.
