DEATH FOLLOWS LONG ILLNESS

After a long and painful illness, Mr. Bill Bircham, 72 years of age, died Monday night at his home near Pisgah. Mr. Bircham had been a sufferer of rheumatism for about 15 years and for the past several years was confined to his bed most of the time. He located in that community 32 years ago and made an ideal citizen, a fine neighbor, a loyal, devout church worker and an indulgent husband and father. Surviving this good man are the wife and six children. The remains were tenderly laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at Pisgah, with services By Rev. A. E. Scott.

Independent Order of Oddfellows

The Independent Order of Oddfellows are primarily associated with the three links of a chain. Each "link" in their chain represents their motto "Friendship, Love and Truth," and often the letters "F, L, T" are inscribed within a link each. The order is sometimes referred to as "the poor man's Freemasonry," as the organization shares many of the symbols, such as the all-seeing eye, with the Freemasons.
