Richard W. Leyes, 78, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Sunday, June 14 at 9:30
p.m. in Hospice House, South Bend, Ind.
He was born on July 26, 1919 in Mishawaka, as the son of Herbert and Agnes
(Arnold) Leyes and was a lifelong area resident.
In 1946, at St. Monica Church, Mishawaka, he married Mary Jane Jansen, who
preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 1969.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alban, George and
Joseph Leyes; and by a sister, Delores Kuss.
Richard is survived by a daughter, Mary Margaret (Charles) Keiser of South Bend;
a son, Dennis (Diane) Leyes of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Kelly Keiser
of Orlando, Fla., Katie (Tony) El-Chami of South Bend, and Adam and Andrew Leyes
, both of South Bend.
Richard retired from Sibley's Machine and Foundry in 1982, after 43 years of
service. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of St. Joseph's
Catholic Church, Mishawaka.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 17, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral
Home, Mishawaka from 3 to 7 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, in St. Joseph
Church with Fr. Robert Yast officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County in lieu of
flowers.
