LAWRENCE DALE EAGER, 80, of rural Harlan, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at his home. Born Dec. 30, 1923, in Scipio Township, Allen County, he was the son of the late Leland C. and Myrtle Mae (Cole) Eager. Dale graduated from Harlan High School in 1941. He married Betty Hill, Feb. 10, 1946. A retired farmer, Dale enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, spending time with the family, amateur radio and wintering in Florida. A World War II veteran, Dale served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator, spending 28 months overseas in the China-Burma-India Theater of operations. He was a member of American Legion Post 409, Leo, and the Anthony Wayne Basha of CBI veterans. He was a member of North Scipio United Methodist Church, where he served as lay leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. Dale is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; son, Steven Lee (Kathie) Eager; a daughter, Donna Rene (Paul) Fordham of Fort Wayne; son, Brian Dale (Barbara) Eager, all of Harlan; six grandchildren, Pam (Andy) Ewing of New Haven, Karen (Wes) Maddox of Harlan, Brad Fordham of Fort Wayne, Rebecca Eager of Raleigh, N.C., Benjamin Eager and Brent Eager, both of Harlan; one great-grandson, Trevor Maddox of Harlan; two sisters, Helen (George) Harter of Palm Desert, Calif. and Georgia (Robert) Zimmerman of Woodburn; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral service is 1 p.m. (Indiana time) Sunday at North Scipio United Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior. Visitation is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. (Ind. time) Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, Ohio, with a CBI Veterans memorial service at 4 p.m. (Ind. time). Burial at Scipio Cemetery, Harlan. The Rev. Patrick Fulbright is officiating. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are North Scipio United Methodist Church, Parkview Home Health & Hospice, or Harlan Christian Youth Center.
