WWII- Army Air Corps, he was the last surviving member of the 480th Aero Squadron.
Survivors: his wife, sons, Ernest Ayles of Ipswich and Charles Ayles of Lynn; daughter, Virginia Paavola of Billerica; sister, Grace Bursey of Waltham; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Father of the late Ralph Ayles.
