GRANDMA BUETTNER DIED, AGED 91
(Longtime Resident of Piercetown Succumbed Friday Morning)

Death claimed one of Kewaunee County's most venerable residents last Friday morning when Mrs. Mary Buettner, 91 years of age, passed away at her home in Piercetown.

She had never fully recovered from a stroke suffered fifteen years ago, and the complications of advanced age brought a peaceful end to over nine decades of a Christian life.

Mrs. Buettner was born Mary Schommer of Port Washington on September 18, 1850. Following her marriage, she and Mr. Buettner moved to a farm at Alaska. That was 60 years ago, and she has resided there ever since. Mr. Buettner died 24 years ago.

Surviving are four sons and two daughters; John Buettner, city comptroller of Kewaunee; Ben of Alaska, William of Milwaukee and Philip of Washington, D.C., Miss Anna Buettner of Alaska and Mrs. Mary Kohls of Milwaukee.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning, with brief services at the home and a Mass at the Immaculate Conception church at Algoma. Burial was in the Algoma Catholic cemetery.

Despite the handicaps of a long illness and the infirmities of her remarkable years, Mrs. Buettner retained an interest in her community and her many old friends to the end. She was a splendid woman, devoted to her fine family and her large circle of admiring neighbors. Her devotion to her community and the many good deeds of her long lifetime will long be remembered.
