Martin Van Buren "Tuck" Kite was the son of George Sizemore KITE 1802 – 1864 and Matilda Spears 1820 – 1880. His siblings were: Rachel KITE 1816 – 1898; George Rufus Kite 1825 – 1861; Hickman Price A Kite 1826 – 1896; Burton Kite 1828 – 1850; Tillman A Kite 1829 – 1907; John Kite 1832 – 1898; Doctor Kite 1834 – 1850; Hila Hiley Kite 1836 – 1916; John Kite 1836 – 1924; Susannah Kite 1841 – 1915 and Isham M. Kite 1860 – 1929.

1890 Veterans Schedules revealed that Martin V Kite living in District 15, Hawkins, Tennessee enlisted in the Confederate army in 1861 and was discharged 1864.

Tennessee State Marriages, Reports that Martin V Kite married Eliza J Sa known as "Gus", on 12 Feb 1868 in Hawkins Co., Tennessee. From this union the following Children were born: Lillie Frances Kite 1868 – 1894; Samuel Elkanah Kite 1869 – 1950; Jesse James Kite 1873 – 1877; Ferribe Josephine Kite 1876 – 1967; Robert T. Kite 1878 – 1914; Marisett Mary Kite 1879; Edward Lee Kite 1881 – 1964; Thomas Frederick Kite 1885 – 1967 and Carl Kite 1889 – 1973.

The 1870 census found Tuck and Gus living with Tuck's widowed mother, in Rural Persia, Hawkins Co., Tennessee, and their first baby, Lillie was one year old.

Tuck and Gus continued to live in Persia and Tuck was a farmer. By now, there was four children in the family.

On the 1900 census Tuck was farming land that he owned, free of debt. Eliza "Gus" had given birth to 8 children, but only 6 of them were alive. They had a household servant, 20 year old Mary Marisett living with them.

On the 1910 census Tuck and Gus were still living on their farm in Persia. Living with them was Carl and his wife, Mollie Houn, and an eight month old baby.

Feb. 18, 1911, was a sad day for Tuck. His dear Gus had passed away. Tuck gathered his family and friends around him at Gus's chosen burial Plot, to bid his beloved wife to "Rest in Peace"
