Alfred Wilkinson is dead in Atlantic City

Word was received here today of the death of Alfred Wilkinson, formerly of Syracuse, in Atlantic City, N.J. Death was due to angina pectoris.
Mr. Wilkinson, about 57 years of age, had a nation-wide reputation as an able patent lawyer and, it is said, was at one time offered the position of patent attorney for the United States Steel corporation.
When a resident of Syracuse Mr. Wilkinson, who had lived in New York for about twenty years, was reported engaged to Miss Winnie Davis, "Daughter of the Southern Confederacy."

Alfred Wilkinson is buried in New York

The funeral of Alfred Wilkinson, 57, well known patent lawyer, formerly of Syracuse, who died in Atlantic City, N.J., Monday, was held to day at his late home, No. 353 West Fifty-seventy street, New York. Mr. Wilkinson, who was never married, made his home with is sisters, Misses Marion, Josephine and Katherine Wilkinson.
Mrs. Ralph S. Bowen and John Wilkinson, cousins of Mr. Wilkinson, left last evening for New York to attend the funeral. Besides his sisters in the metropolis, Mr. Wilkinson leaves another, Mrs. Philip Wilson of Detroit, Mich., and a brother Henry Wilkinson of Orange, N.J.

Syracuse Daily Standard May 9, 1890 paper had an article announcing the engagement of Winnie Davis and Alfred Wilkinson by Mrs. Jefferson Davis. Apparently they met at the home of Dr. Thomas Emory, whose mother was a close personal friend of Jefferson Davis.
The October 26, 1890 paper then described an interview with Mr. Wilkinson in which he claimed that Ms. Davis broke the engagement due to ill health.
