Wilma K. Van Horn, 90, of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Heartland of Bellefontaine. She was born in Bellefontaine on Nov. 19, 1920, a daughter of the late Hamer W. and Lydia Long Smith. On March 31, 1945, she married Lewis A. Van Horn and he died Sept. 22, 1973. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila McCarty, on April 30, 1982; and a brother, Max Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn D. (Gary) Swinford of Redmond, Wash.; a brother, Warren Smith of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Edith Dell (Kenneth) Turner of Logansville, Ruth (Richard) Beard of Huntsville and Wanda Schmidt of DeGraff; and sisters-in-law, June Mulcahy of Lima and Yvonne Smith of DeGraff.
A retired U.S. Postal Service clerk and 30-year poll worker, she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lakeview, where she sang in the choir and was director, played piano and was active in many women's groups. A 25-year member of the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild, she also served on the Farm Bureau and the Weekly Religious Education Board.

Pastor Rob Kilgore conducts a funeral at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Myron Van Horn Chapel of Smith-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview, where calling is one hour prior. Burial is in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Cancer Society.
