Donald Nelson Bevans, age 83, of Cadillac passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

He was born in Chicago, IL on December 30, 1927, the son of Earl and Esther (Nelson) Bevans, and grew up in Manistee. On June 16, 1953, he married Alida Catherine Hengeveld, who survives. Don spent much of his professional career with Kysor of Cadillac, where he directed marketing and sales for Kysor of Cadillac before retiring in 1990. Prior to joining Kysor and relocating to Cadillac in 1959, he attended Central Michigan University and worked in manufacturing in Manistee. Don was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also an avid golfer, bridge player, outdoorsman and woodworker, and took pride in sprucing up his yard on Holly Road and watching his grandchildren grow.

In addition to his wife, Alida; Don is survived by his four children, Mary Bevans Gillett (Ward) of Traverse City, John Bevans of Muskegon, Barbara Bassett-Payne (Tim) of Traverse City, and Ann Mettetal (Francois) of Howell; and his six grandchildren, Katie and Alexandra Gillett, Christopher Bevans, Jennifer Bassett-Payne and Francesca and Eric Mettetal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John "Jack" Bevans.
