Paul Albert Peeler is on the right on his baseball team about 1897 note the old hats and primitive gloves- He moved to 613 Innes street about 1912 where the new Salisbury, NC post office is now and worked for Southern railroad for more than 50 years as a painter-He lost his right arm at the Spencer Railroad repair shops in 1942 when a steam engine throttle was bumped by someone in the engine cab while he was painting one of the Steam engines wheels- the spinning wheel cut his right arm off-As a crowd of onlookers looked , One of his coworkers exclaimed "you are going to let this man bleed to death" and took off his head bandanna and tied it around my grandfather's arm saving his life! Paul Peeler never let the loss of his right arm slow him down -he continued to work for Southern Railroad til he retired. I am grateful for this man that stepped forward and saved my grandfathers life- I enjoyed 23 years with my grandfather-thank you decedents of the man who saved my grandfathers life-!!! May they both rest in peace!
