SALEM - Don as he was known to all his friends and associates rarely used his given name of Gwen. He was born on August 9, 1925 in Lebanon, OR to Loyal Vern and Vera Lee Wilson. While growing up, Don's father drove logging trucks and the family lived in logging communities all over Oregon. Don had two brothers, Leonelle and Marlo. All three boys contracted Polio about 1927. Leonelle did not survive the disease and the other two boys suffered from Post-Polio syndrome in their later years.

On March 23, 1960 Don married Helen Disbrow and had two sons, David LaDon Wilson and Steven Lee Wilson.

Don was a Christian. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs and his home. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, collecting pre built wooden models of historical ships (to display in his home), painting with watercolor, oil or acrylic paints and traveling by car, with his wife, Helen through the United States. As Don's illness progressed and he was not able to do much physically, he enjoyed TV and movies, especially the old classic western movies. He was also able during this time to ride on an electric scooter and was often seen riding around his neighborhood on it.

Don is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, David (Carolyn) of Salem, OR and Steven (Kelly) of Progresso, Mexico; three grandchildren, Ashley Lynn (Trevor) Coker of California, Megan Marie Wilson of Salem, OR and Michael Aaron Wilson of Salem, OR. He is preceded in death by his parents and both brothers.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at City View Cemetery. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

Published in the Salem, Oregon Statesman Journal on May 12, 2011.

His father's memorial may be #28880132. His oldest brother, Leonelle, #54091382. His other brother, Marlo's memorial is #54077115.
