Celeste Mayhew Kernodle, 86, of Mooresville, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at Alston Brook in Lexington. Born Jan. 3, 1922 in Mooresville, she was the daughter of the late James and Nancy Hager Mayhew. She was retired from the Mooresville Mill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her children, Gary Barnette and wife, Helen, Patricia Hamm and husband, Doug, all of Lexington, Willis Ervin of Catawba, Sherry Shumake and husband, Donnie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Glenwood Memorial Park with Rev. Johnny Abee officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Kidney Foundation of NC, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 708, Charlotte, NC 28210. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville is serving the Kernodle family.
