He and a friend were handling a pistol one evening and to demonstrate that it wasn't loaded, he held it to his right temple and pulled the trigger. He died an hour later in St. Joseph Hospital. He was taken to Princeton where he grew up and buried beside his parents. He had just turned 24 and they had no children.
