EMMA AMELIA HACKETT

ALLEN -- Emma Amelia Hackett, daughter of Monroe Dake Hackett and Eleanor Ophilatia (Marvin) Hackett was born at Jerome, Michigan July 26, 1878. She was the oldest of five children; Emma (Cary), Ray, Sherby, Robin (Kelley), and Ruby (Gordon/Kimball/Ramstetter).

On May 10, 1902, Emma was united in marriage to Erwin Delbert Cary at Fremont, Michigan. For a number of years the couple lived at Hesperia, Michigan, where Mr. Cary was engaged in selling Real Estate.

In 1916 they came to Hillsdale, where Mrs. Cary did practical nursing for a time. But she discontinued nursing to assist her husband in raising gladioli. Later they purchased a farm near Allen, Michigan, known as Glad-I-Saw Acres where they continued this work until the death of her husband in 1942. Then Mrs. Cary moved to Allen where she resided until her death.

In 1920 she became a Christian at the Hillsdale United Brethren Church and fully trusted her Savior til the end.

Emma departed this life May 25, 1953, at the age of 74 years and 10 months. She died at the Gittings Convalescent Home in Hillsdale following illness of a month. Death was caused by apoplexy.
