Dean R. Woy, 89, formerly of Ligonier, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at In-Touch Hospice House, Somerset. He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Somerset, a son of the late Martin and Bertha Menser Woy. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Ligonier Valley School District. Dean served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Ligonier and Somerset Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Bittinger Woy; and two brothers, Dwight and Llloyd Woy. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Miller, of Ligonier, and Rose Marie Duncan, of Brick, N.J.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Dean's life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Somerset Church of Christ. Private burial will be in the Fort Palmer Cemetery. The J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., of Ligonier, is assisting the family.
