Roscoe M. "Rocky" Corley Jr., 63, Gorham, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at his home southeast of Gorham.
He was born Aug. 25, 1947, in Albany, Ga., to Roscoe M. and Bethel Jane (Connor) Corley Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of Albany (Ga.) High School and lived in Gorham since 1971.
He married Judy (Jacobs) on Dec. 28, 1968, in Norfolk, Va. He was employed as an electrician for Texaco-Cities Service and KAW Pipeline for 26 years. He retired in 2002. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, stationed in Norfolk on the Pre-Com Unit of the USS John F. Kennedy, CVA-67, and was a plank owner of the original ship crew.
He was a member of Russell Wm Roe American Legion Post No. 99 and was past commander. He served as treasurer of Big Creek Township/Russell County for a few years and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Robert "Rob" Corley and wife, Michele, Gorham; a daughter, Michele Owens, Atchison; two brothers, Michael Corley and Tommy Corley, both of Albany; a sister, Martha Hall, Albany; five grandchildren, McKenzie Caron, Nathan Corley, Taylor Corley, Thomas Owens and Kathryn Owens; and his mother-in-law, Anna Jacobs, Gorham.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Marvin Corley; a niece, Lynn Meeks; and his father-in-law, Robert G. Jacobs.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham; burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Gorham, with military honors by Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671, and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
A Gorham Daughter of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Gorham Development Association in care of the city park project.
