Yost, James William, 78, went to be with the Lord July 27, 2007, surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 15, 1929 in Dayton, OH to Robert and Helen Wagner Yost. Jim graduated from Otterbein College, a member of Pi Kappa Phi and co-founder of the campus radio station, WOBN. He served in the Navy, then moved to Tampa in 1954 to marry his college sweetheart. Predeceased by his infant son, Charles Edwin. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois Abbott Yost, son Richard (Lisa), daughter Nancy Leach (Dr. David), grandchildren Matthew Yost, Lauren and Connor Leach, brothers Ken, Fred (Betty), sisters Janet Kinskey (Jerry) and Linda Oda (Lowell), and many nieces and nephews. Jim retired in 1995 after 40 years at Tampa Electric Co. as Chief Inspector. He served Hillsborough County on the Electrical Board of Adjustment, Appeals, and Examiners 1978-2005

Jim had a passion for service to God, community, and friends. He was an active member of North Tampa Civitan Club, was Florida District Civitan Governor 1973-74, and was Civitan International President 1984-85. He has served on many committees and as a delegate to General Conference for the Florida United Methodist Church. A very active member of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church he has served many leadership roles. He loved Amateur Radio (W4ORA), was a 50+ year member of Hillsborough Lodge and Scottish Rite.

Honors for his many accomplishments include the Life Achievement Awards of the United Methodist Men, Chapel of 4 Chaplains Legion of Honor Bronze Medallion, Civitan International Honor Key and Presidential Honor Key, In His Service Award from LMUMC, and was honored by Cornerstones Family Ministries.

A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31 from 6-8 p.m, both at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, 2902 W. Fletcher Ave., Tampa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
