August Laurent, one of the well known farmers of the town of Lincoln answered death's final summons last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Deceased was stricken with a stroke of apoplexy two weeks ago, and although the best medical aid was sought, the sufferings of the man could not be relieved and he lingered for two weeks between life and death, being unconscious the greater part of the time. Mr. Laurent was quite prominent in the vicinity where he lived and owned a large farm.
He was born in Belgium, June 10th 1849 and had nearly reached the 65th mile post at the time of his death. He emigrated to this country in 1856 and came direct to this county and took up a farm in the town of Lincoln, near Rio Creek, where he resided upon his demise. The early years of his life were spent in hard work about the place and he owned a fine farm as there is to be seen in the town at the time he was called to the beyond.
Deceased is survived by his widow and five children, four boys and one daughter, namely Joseph, Battise (John) Theophile, Jule and Sadie. The funeral was held from St. Peter's church at Lincoln, Tuesday forenoon and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
