On June 6, 1881, near Green River in Kentucky, Mary Catherine Humphrey was born. She spent her girlhood days in that eastern country, but in later life she came to Kansas, where she died at her home near Forest City, November 1, 1912. She married R.H. Courtney March 11, 1873 at Bardstone, Kentucky and they had nine children. At the age of sixteen she united with the M.E. church and remained a member until her death. Mrs. Courtney had been sick for some two months. Funeral was held at the Forest City church November 2.
