Billy was the son of John Lahiff (Ireland) and Elizabeth Fitzgerald. He was the owner of LaHiff's Tavern in NYC which hosted many of Broadway's chief celebrities during the mid to late 20's. He rented a room to Ed Sullivan and his funeral was attended by over 500 including many celebrities at St Patrick's Cathedral. He was the uncle to early film screen actress Nancy Carroll aka Ann Veronica Lahiff. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
