Lavina Riley
Lavina Riley, 94, 601 East Polk Street, Washington, passed away, December 25. 1997 at Washington Care Center following a long illness.
The daughter of Jake and Fanny (sic. a/k/a Fannie) Rich Christner, she was born in Jefferson County on September 19. 1903
On July 3, 1924 she married Cecil Riley in Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her brother Elmer Christner, Mt. Pleasant and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988 and five sisters, Bertha Hill, Barbara Neff, Annie Campbell, Ada Schantz and Naoma Schantz; and five brothers, Dave, Nick, Jake, Ezra and Christopher Christner.
Lavina moved to Washington from Coppock in 1964. She was educated in Jefferson County and was a member of Marion Avenue Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and farmed with her husband near Coppock.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29. 1997 at Jones Eden Funeral Home, Washington. Casketbearers were Greg Sinn, Marvin Christner, Gary Van Sant, Gary Crossett and Kris Amrine. Organist was Dorothy Helcher; vocalists were Lori Hoyle and Darlene Owen. Interment was in Wayland Cemetery, Wayland.
Memorials may be made to Washington Care Center.
Jones and Eden Funeral Home were in charge of the Arrangements.
