Pauline M. Diehl
Former cook and waitress at local restaurants
Pauline M. Diehl, 89, formerly of Catawissa Allied Apartments, Catawissa, died Thursday evening, May 5, 2011, at Balanced Care, Bloomsburg, where she had been a resident for the last 1 1/2 years. She had been in failing health for the past three years.
She was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Locust Township, a daughter of the late Aaron S. and Eva E. Rarig Yoder.
Pauline was a cook and waitress for local restaurants, including Dutch Pantry, Char Broil and Hotel Magee, retiring when she was 53 years old.
While a resident of Balanced Care, she assisted the entertainment director with once-a-month activities for the residents.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Numidia, her whole life, where she sang in the choir when she was young. She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Pauline enjoyed crocheting, crafting, playing cards, music, watching the Food Network, and loved being with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James "Ronnie" Yeick; a brother, Charles Yoder, and a sister, Alice Whitaker. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family.
She is survived by a son, Stanley Yeick and his wife, Elaine, of Catawissa; two daughters: Bonnie Shultz and her husband, Robert, of Danville, and Paula Mickelson of Catawissa; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Yeick, of Numidia; seven grandchildren: James Yeick and his wife Daphne, Edward Yeick, Tracey Sudol and her husband, Barry, and Denise Yuhas, all of Catawissa; Brian Yeick and his wife, Stacia, of Muncy; Shrei Eley and her husband, Gary, of Delaware; and Thomas Shultz, of Rohrersburg, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday afternoon, May 13, 2011, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia, with the Rev. Gordon Smith, her pastor, officiating.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Balanced Care Activity Fund, 3298 Ridge Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa.
