DEATH CLAIMS Benjamin Franklin BOLAND IN CALIFORNIA
PARALYSIS FATAL TO VETERAN CARTHAGE AUCTIONEER
CRIED OVER 4,000 SALES

B. F. Boland, veteran Carthage auctioneer, and widely known in southwest Missouri, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Boland Grant at Huntington Beach, California where he had been visiting for several months.
Mr. Boland suffered a stroke of paralysis Thursday night according to word received here by relatives. No other word concerning his condition was received until the message that he had passed away came today.

He came to Carthage in 1876 and had made this his home virtually ever since with the exception of four years in Leon, Kansas, and four years in Dade county, Missouri, where he was engaged in farming. He cried more than 4,000 auction sales in the 38 years of his service in that business.
Mr. Boland was the last one of the original board members of the Jasper County Fair association who had served continuously since the founding of the fair in 1905. He was an untiring worker and was intensely interested in the fair and its success throughout the time that he served as board member. He was also and efficient worker for the Red Cross during the world war, having raised money at various times for the organization while holding sales over the county. He was about 68 years old.
Mr. Boland was also a leader in the First Christian church.
Mrs. Boland passed away on October 8, 1926 in Carthage. The husband retired from active business shortly after her death and after disposing of his property here left a few months ago for an indefinite stay in California.

He is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Grant of Huntington Beach and Mrs. Olive Boland Caldwell of Burlington Junction, Missouri
A son; Benjamin Franklin Boland, Jr. and two grandchildren; William Hall who is a student at Missouri University at Columbia and Helen May Hall of Burlington Junction.

The body will be brought to Carthage for the funeral and burial will be in Fasken cemetery.
