James Luther Boles was born to James K. Polk Boles and Elizabeth "Lizzie" R. Carmony on Dec 20, 1880. He was born in Texas. He married Winona Esther Lancaster on April 7, 1901, in Wise Co. Texas. They had 9 children together: infant girl, Norma, Melvin, Albert, John, Verdie, Silas, Camilla, and Shelton. It is family lore that James and his wife Winona could not get along. They did not live together toward the end of their lives. Apparently, James killed himself in the pasture of his son's farm. He suffered from depression and chronic illness. He died on March 8, 1954. He is buried next to his wife and his son Melvin.
