She married E.C. "Tim" Kidd in Tippah Co., MS on Jan. 1, 1869, and bore him 12 children, 10 of whom survived to adulthood.
After her husband died at a fairly young age, she ran a small store in the front yard of their property, selling staples.
She had gone to Memphis for a visit with her son, S.E. Kidd and his wife, where she fell, breaking her hip. My dad (S.E. Kidd, Jr.) said that in those days they put patients with a broken hip in a full body cast, and kept them in the hospital for weeks. She died a week or so after her fall.
Her obituary appeared on the front page of the Southern Advocate (a weekly paper published in Ashland, MS) on July 4, 1929:
MRS. B.E. KIDD
Mrs. B.E. Kidd, age 79 years, widow of E.C. Kidd, died at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis at 10 o'clock p.m. Thursday June 27th, and was brought back to Ashland on Friday and buried in Bethlehem cemetery Saturday. Funeral services were conducted at the Bethlehem church by by Rev. J.P. Horton of Colliersville, Tenn., a close friend of the family for over thirty years.
Mrs. Kidd is survived by for sons, R.L. and A.S. Kid of Ashland, S.E. Kidd of Memphis, and D.C. Kidd of Winborn; four daughters, Mrs. Van Talbot and Mrs. J.P. Roach of Ashland, Mrs. H.S. Perkins of Germantown, Twnn., and Mrs. Sam Roach of Mt. Pleasant, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. M.J. Kimery of route 2, Saulsbury, Tenn.; and seven brothers, T.R. Stroup, Ashland; G.S. Stroup, Memphis; D.M. J.M. and R.H. Stroup, Grand Junction, Tenn.; W.F. Stroup, Holly Springs; and L.P. Stroup, Ashland; also, quite a number of grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her. W.E. Kidd, her eldest son, preceded her to the grave by less than two months. All her surviving children, brothers and sister attended her funeral. She was a member of the Black Jack church, and lived a consecrated Christian life.
