Edna was born June 4, 1909 in Chadwick, IL, to Fred A. and Effie E. (Green) Doden. She was educated in the Chadwick Grade School and was a graduate of Thomson High School in Thomson, IL. She was first married to Fred W. Yates on October 19, 1926 in Rock Island, IL. Her second marriage was to John C. Hoy on July 9, 1935 in Mt. Carroll, IL. He died December 3, 1956. Edna was first employed as a housekeeper by the former Maple Lane Motel in Fulton, IL. She later worked as a coupon counter for the A.C. Nielsen's Clearing House in Clinton, IA and also took in laundry, ironing, and provided in home child care. Edna was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church in Albany, IL. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and reading.
Survivors include one daughter, Ardith (Harold "Bud") Burns of Albany, IL; one son, Raymond E. "Bud" (Sandra) Hoy of Corvallis, OR; twelve grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; thirty-seven great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hoy; one daughter, Donna Cole; two sons, Blaine Yates and Everett Yates; one sister, Mildred Kahler; and one brother, Merle Doden.
