Obituary - Madison Egbert Morrell, age 65, returned to the arms of his loving Heavenly Father and devoted wife and son, Wednesday, September 21, 1994, in Santaquin, Utah.
He was born January 20, 1929, in Logan, Utah, to Job William and Maude Egbert Morrell. At age 12, his mother died and at age 15 he introduced his father to a lovely woman named Bertha Katherine Ebert, who later became his step-mother and to whom he often gave credit for teaching him many of the fine things of life.
He served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Holland and later served successfully in the US Army. While in the Army, he trained in Russian language at Monterey, Calif.He received his bachelors degree from Brigham Young University and his masters from Columbia University. He also studied at Middlebury College in Vermont, Utah State University, the University of Colorado, and the University of Heidleburg.
Madison married his sweetheart, Juanita Jensen, September 18, 1958 in the Logan LDS Temple. She died on July 18, 1985.
He taught Social Sciences at Skagit Valley College in Mt. Vernon, Washington for 30 years. He also taught Russian.
Madison had a wonderful sense of humor. He was well known in Mt. Vernon as the man who rode his bike singing in Russian at the top of his lungs! He also had nicknames for all his children.
He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions which included high councilor, bishop, and worker in the Seattle Temple. He dearly loved the temple work.
Madison is survived by three sons and three daughters (nicknames included): Ronald (Jobus) and Terri Morrell, serving as a physician in the Air Force in England; Barbara (Varya) and Dan Higinbotham, Orem; Beverly (Bowie) and Ray Ward, Seattle, Wash.; Becky Morrell (Nagle) Mt. Vernon, Wash.; Roger Morrell (Big Fuzz), Seattle, Wash.; and Richard Morrell (Little Fuzz), Orem. One granddaughter, Emily Higinbotham, Orem. Two grandchildren who will be born shortly. One sister, Molly Bailey, Orem. Numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his infant son, Douglas William, sisters, Margaret LeRoy and Betty Lange, one brother, William Morrell, his parents and step-mother, and his grandson, Benjamin Alvin Higinbotham.
We would like to thank the staff at Robbins Alzheimers Center in Orem for their loving care and Wesley and Lynn Robbins, who took him into their home when his health declined more. Most of all, we give gratitude to our Savior, Jesus Christ, for His Atonement which broke the bands of death and made Eternal Life possible and whose Gospel teaches us that families are forever!
Funeral services will be held at Saturday, September 24, 1994, 11 a.m. in the Vermont 1st Ward Chapel, 400 N. 400 E., Orem where friends may call one hour prior to services. Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, of Orem, funeral directors. Burial will be in Hawthorn Lawn Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Washington.
