Thomas Coffey was the son of William M Coffey 1828 – 1893 and Ellen Nash 1824 – 1884. His siblings were:
James A Coffey 1850 – 1917; Elizabeth Coffey 1851 – 1883; Nancy Coffey 1860 – 1883; Franklin Cofffey 1863 and Charles C Coffey 1866.

On Nov. 1, 1877 Thomas married Martha Jane Cinnamon. From this union was born the following children: Philemon "Leman" Coffey 1878 – 1962; Lucy Anna Coffey 1880; Arminda "Minda" Coffey 1881 – 1959; Dora Coffey 1882 – 1963; Arthur Coffey 1884 – 1885; Hillard C Coffey 1885 – 1964; Grover C. Coffey 1888 – 1964; Lydia Coffey 1890 – 1966; Arlena M Coffey 1893 – 1969; Benjamin Adam Coffey 1896 – 1958Sanford Coffey 1898 – 1899 and James Clay Coffey 1900 – 1988.

In the 1900 census Thomas owned his farm and home free of a mortgage in the Rutledge, Grainger, Tennessee. Ten of his twelve children were still at home.

On Aug 26 1900, was a sad day for Tom's family. He was only 46 years old and he had passed away. The cause of his untimely death is not known. A burial plot was selected in the Condry Cemetery, Grainger County, Tennessee, and Martha gathered her family and friend around her as the buried Tom to bid him Farewell.
