WASHINGTON — Edith Juanita Spalding, 94, of Washington, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Nursing Center. Born Jan. 11, 1917, in Rogers, Ark., she was the daughter of Delmar D. and Cora Helen (Gardner) DeLay. A member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, she had been a retail clerk at Buchenberger's Book Store and Sonny and Sis Clothing Store. She is survived by a daughter, Carlene K. (Spalding) Jones of Martinsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Bruce D. and Janet Spalding of Indianapolis and Bernard D. Spalding of Washington; grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Bernie and Trent Spalding, Denitra (Spalding) Simpkins, Jessica (Jones) Landez, John W. Jones II, Suzanne Japenga and Harry Fox; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth M. Taylor. Her husband, Carl A. Spalding, whom she married Sept. 20, 1941, died May 13, 1971. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Rev. George Qualley officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation is from noon until service time at the church. Arrangements are being made through Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home. (March 30, 2011
