Margaret E. Cimenski, 91, Brainerd, was called home to heaven on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, surrounded by her family at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born March 4, 1915, in Brainerd to Robert and Hester (Caughey) Thompson. She married Frank Cimenski.

Margaret grew up attending country school. She graduated from Washington High School in 1933. After graduation, she attended teachers training at Franklin Jr. High School. She then taught in country schools for many years, taking educational courses when she could to further her education. While teaching in Nisswa she was able to complete her education and received her bachelor of science degree from St. Cloud State Teacher's College. She went on to teach in Riverton and Brainerd schools before she taught in Little Falls where she retired in 1974. She was elected teacher of the year by Brainerd Education Association in 1968 and by the Lincoln Elementary School in Little Falls in 1974. She was a member of the Little Falls Education Association and the Minnesota and National Education Association.

Margaret was active in her community serving as 4-H club leader and assisting with the Crow Wing County Fair. She was an active member of the Grace Covenant Church while she lived in Little Falls. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church while living in Brainerd; she was the first woman elder elected to the session. She also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school as well as being a deacon and a circle member.

She enjoyed bowling and was active in local leagues until she had to give it up. She loved to travel and traveled worldwide on tours and with her sisters.

She is survived by her brother, W.W. Thompson, of Brainerd; and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was much more than an aunt to many of her nieces and nephews; she was like a mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; two brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd with Pastor George Buchin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Friends may call on Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Timber Bay Ministries.
